Conventional lawn care can wreak havoc on the environment, your health and your lawn. With this typical care, your lawns can turn from a self-sufficient lawn to a lawn with shallow roots, thatch and a dependency on synthetic products and watering. The solution to conventional lawn care is to build and manage a lawn in the organic way. The first step with an organic lawn care program is to build healthy soil. Healthy soil contains living, breathing organisms whose activities feed the lawn naturally. With any organic lawn care program you have to be patient. There may be some weeds in the beginning but in the end the results will be a beautiful, self sufficient lawn which is safe for the environment and your family.
Organic Weed Control
We apply the weed control product in early spring. The product contains corn gluten and natural slow release nitrogen. Corn gluten is a by-product of corn. The effectiveness of corn gluten is cumulative which means the results improve with yearly repeated use. It is perfectly safe for children and pets to be on the lawn after application. This product can also be applied in the fall; however, fall is the best time to overseed lawns. When corn gluten is applied, seed germination is prevented for approximately 90 days. Most times we opt to aerate and seed lawns in the fall and skip the fall weed application.
Organic Lawn Fertilizer
We use an fertilizer which is 100% Organic derived from feather meal, bone meal, blood meal, kelp meal, wheat shorts, amino acids and humic acid. This product is applied around May 31, July 4, and October 31. These nutrients increase the organisms activity in the soil resulting in improved soil structure. The nutrients are broken down into a form which can be used by the plants. This product is perfectly safe for children and pets to be on the lawn immediately after application.
